This is GRHC's third course in the Green Roof Accreditation Program. Registrants should have already taken the Green Roof Design 101 Introductory Course and Green Roof Infrastructure Design & Installation 201 or have an in-depth understanding of green roof design and available technology.

This course will provide participants with an overview of waterproofing and drainage construction and maintenance for green roof assemblies. It lays out technical vocabulary and materials and presents detailed design solutions and implementation best management practices for waterproofing and drainage in green roofs.

This course provides information that you can put to work immediately, allowing you to:

  • Understand the principles of waterproofing and drainage as they apply to green roofs

  • Identify appropriate materials for waterproofing and drainage of your green roof project

  • Understand the technical design requirements for waterproofing and drainage in green roofs

  • Understand the potential implementation issues posed by the additional trades working on a roof and techniques for its prevention

This weekend at the Solar Living Institute
Design and Build A Living Roof Workshop
July 19th - 20th
9-5pm each day
This workshop will over the essential steps to planning and building a living roof. We will cover the theories of site assessment, appropriate plants, building requirements and more - creativity will be encouraged with design charettes and concepts will be put to practice in the installation of an aloe and succulent roof garden for the Pachamama building.

Living Roofs....
A living roof provides energy saving insulation, stormwater drainage and management, aesthetic appeal, food production, and improved air quality.

If you are a landscape architect, planner, contractor, horticulturist, or savvy homeowner wanting to install a living roof on an existing building, this workshop is for you.

The workshop will be held at the beautiful Solar Living Institute in Hopland, Mendocino County.

Course topics include:
• The major functions and components of a living roof
• How to choose the right products and plants
• How to design, build, and maintain a living roof
• Existing living roof models and where to go for further information

Participants are welcome to camp out under the stars in facility grounds. Showers, bathrooms and kitchen facilities included.

A benefit screening of the popular cult classic Repo Man at the Parkway Theater in Oakland.

Follow a dispossessed repossession agent through mid-80s Los Angeles as he encounters aliens, CIA agents, televangelists, and car chases. "The life of a Repo Man is always intense. But only a fool gets killed for a car."

We will mark the occasion with a celebration of the passing of American car culture and the birth of something new -- an invitation to join the growing movement for a livable, local, resilient Bay Area. We will also feature "The Real Deal: A Retro/Spective on the Automobile," a showcase of creative collages by local artivist Laura Garzon.
