Learn the basics of how to collect rainwater from your house and store it in cisterns or directly in your garden. Berms, basins, french drains, swales and diversion drains can help offset your need for irrigation entirely or minimize your water use in the summer as well as build soil fertility and stabilize soils. There will be two sections -- each will begin with a slideshow presentation and then work hand's-on including some of the following activities: diverting the EcoHouse downspouts to feed several features in the garden; installing a cistern to hold rainwater; creating earthworks and contouring to capture rainwater; planting native and drought tolerant plants.
Teachers: Babak Tondre of the EcoHouse & Ingrid Severson of Bay Localize.
Bring gloves, clothes to get dirty, bring lunch; will work with shovels, wheelbarrows. Participants will need to sign a liability waiver. Please RSVP and specify whether you would like to begin with the 10am or 12:30pm slideshow.
